The Hawaii State Archives' Name Index is an index by personal or business name to records and letterbooks of Hawaii Interior Department and Foreign Office and Executive, some private collections, library books, pamphlets, broadsides, newspapers and periodicals. It is most complete for Interior Department and Foreign Ofice and Executive records. Newspapers (1836-1950) include the Advertiser, Star Bulletin, Polynesian, Hawaiian Gazette, and the Friend, but none of them are completely indexed.

At this time names of persons or businesses beginning with the letters A-B are available online. Entries to the online Name Index will be updated periodically. The complete Name Index is available in the Hawaii State Archives reading room.

The Index entries refer to records in the Hawaii State Archives in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Archives is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm excluding State of Hawaii holidays. Records are retrieved from storage until 3:30 pm. Reference service is provided via telephone at 808-586-0329 and email at archives@hawaii.gov.
