About the Collection
Hawaii State Archives Place Name Index is organized by Island, District and Place Names. Indexes arranged alphabetically are to government records from the Kingdom, Provisional Government, Republic and Territory of Hawaii. Many of the index entries refer to records from the Privy Council, Interior Department, Foreign Office, Commissioner of Public Lands, and Territorial Governor's administration records. The Place Name Index is not a comprehensive list of all land records.

At this time place names from letters A, E and U are available online. Entries to the online Place Name Index will be updated periodicaly. The complete Place Name Index is available in the Hawaii State Archives reading room.
